If I had the power, I would ban leggings. I always thought what you wore underneath was as important as what you wear on top. I love to design things that people can actually buy. I’m staggered by what a boot costs today.

Jeans represent democracy in fashion. Fashion to me has become very disposable; I wanted to get back to craft, to clothes that could last. Beauty is perfect in its imperfections, so you just have to go with the imperfections.

For me, the summer will be pure gray – mother-of-pearl gray, very pale gray. To me, this is the big statement for summer.

If you don’t feel comfortable in your clothes, it’s hard to think of anything else. We look our best in subdued colors, sophisticated cuts, and a general air of sleek understatement.

I think it’s the responsibility of a designer to try to break rules and barriers. My dresses are very reasonably priced, for dresses that are cut on the body.
